August

The month August owes its name to the Roman emperor Oktavian Augustus (the sublime). It was originally called “sextilis“ (6th month of the Roman ca- lendar, that began with March) but was renamed as Augustus in the year 8 AD and extended by one day (which he took from February) to 31 days. This way, this month was as long as that of Julius Caesar! The original Germanic name for this month was Ernting or Erntemond (harvest month), as corn harvest occurred around this time.

It is the month of absolute abundance!
