July – Unique piece

The month July refers to Julius Caesar, whose birthday was in this month. The Germanic name was Heuert or Heumond (hay month), since hay was harvested at this time (hauen = mowing grass).
The picture, “Great Piece of Turf” by Albrecht Dürer (1503) showed meadow plants in a realistic style for the rst time, wild growing herbs and grasses in all of their beauty.

Apart from hay harvest, July is a month of summer tranquillity, in which a transcendent release from the ordinary and mundane is favoured.
