The Mystical Union of Sun and Moon

The union of sun (Sol) and moon (Luna) in the bath is an ancient
alchemistic motif (see Mylius, Philosophia reformata, 1622; Lexikon
der Symbole, Udo Becker). The masculine and feminine principles unite in water, the element of cleaning, renewal and rebirth. The hermaphrodite, the power that is independent of sexual determination because it unites the masculine and the femi- nine principle in itself, hovers above Sol and Luna and stimulates them with bolts of knowledge.
