October – Unique piece
The month October derives its name from the Latin word octo (eight), as this was the eighth month in the Roman calendar.
The Old High German name for this month was Gilbhard, referring to the yellowing (“das Vergilben”) of the leaves in this autumn month.
Another name for this month was Weinmond (wine month), due to the grape harvesting that occurred.
It is also when stag rutting occurs, as the antlers have grown back to their full size during the summer months, after being shed in February.
